Who doesn't like chocolate? It is commonly known to be an anti-depressant due to the neurotransmitters it releases that make us feel happy and excited. But according to the indigenous culture of the mayas, there is more to this precious ressource than just pure chemistry.
Raw, unprocessed cacao (not to be confused with cocoa) has been used for rituals and medical purposes since centuries. Legend has it, that a cacao tree appears when humans neglect and disrespect the nature to restore harmony and balance.
So, since it has such a good reputation, how can we use it for our own benefits?
Unfortunately, digging into your favourite bar of processed, sugar-loaded chocolate bar is not the solution (at least not always). But with the help of raw, organic cacao powder and some quiet moments, we can host our very own cacao ceremony that will make you feel love and a deep connection to nature.

How it works
20g raw cacao powder (not heated over 45 degrees)
1 Tsp coconut sugar
1 Tsp vanilla (grounded or extract)
1 Tsp cinnamon
1 pinch chilli
125 ml water
Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil before tranfersing it into your favourite cup.
With your freshly brewed cacao beverage, find a quiet place to sit down and unwind. Close your eyes and take small sips of the hot chocolate. With every sip, experience all of the flavours and feelings you have while drinking it. Which feelings are popping up?
Concentrate on further exploring them and breathe slowly. Feel the love and warmth the cacao distributes. Inhale the peaceful, loving energy and feel your worries being replaced with positive, warm thoughts.
Feel free to introduce a personal mantra or play relaxing music in the background; whatever makes you feel comfortable and secure.
Once you have experienced the power of the cacao, slowly open your eyes and end your session with a gesture of your choice.
Repeat this sequence whenever you need a refreshing break and notice yourself becoming more connected to nature and others. If you are new to meditative practices or want to experience it in a bigger group, browse the web for cacao-ceremonies in your area.
