Spring Cleaning for the mind

Spring marks new beginnings. The temperatures rise, the days get longer and the sun starts to show up more frequently again. Winter fatigue is finally coming to an end and so is our lack of motivation. Therefore, many of us use this time of the year to organise and tidy up their life.

This year, turn your spring cleaning into a life-enriching practice to rid yourself from tangled thoughts, stress and things that weigh you down. Apart from vacuuming, dusting and washing, cleaning can also mean to obtain mental clarity for developing strategies to reach your goals and live a happier life. Using the hacks below, you will be able to not only clean your house but your entire life.

Being organised boosts productivity and motivation helping you to reach your goals quicker.

1. Make lists

Writing is therapy. Once you write down the things that are on your mind, you will experience that you stop stressing and worrying about them. Furthermore, creating lists helps you to organise your thoughts so you are more likely to get things done. Whether the list is about your weekly tasks, things you are grateful for or your goals in life- writing them down makes you think about them and creates awarness.

2. Spend time outside

One of the best things to clear your head is to spend time outside. Throw on a light jacket and venture off to your nearest forest or park. Watch the first flowers spread from the earth, listen to the birds concert up in the trees give and take some deep breaths. Not only will the sun boost your mood, but you will also have some me-time and find out what you really want. Moving your body does also help with low energy levels and provides power to kick start your mental spring cleaning.

3. Throw away old stuff

We hoard so many things that we never use, yet we still keep them with the excuse that we might need them one day. But if we are being honest, we know we don't. You can't be an organized person if your home isn't. Take some time to go through all of your stuff and throw out everything that you haven't used in one year. Donate things that can still be used, such as furniture and clothes, and throw everything else away instead of secretly keeping it in a dark corner in the basement.

4. Cut out toxic friends

Do you currently have people in your life that make you feel bad? Life is too short to deal with toxic friendships, so, maybe it is time to say goodbye to a couple of these so called friends. It might seem scarry at first , but if you'll notice that you are not missing them, you know you made the right decission. Now you can invest the spare time in deepening the friendships that make you happy and life worth living. And the old friends are pretty likely to be replaced with new ones in no time.

5. Swap your snacks

One of the key elements to brain power and good physical performance is your diet. Especially when we are stressed, we tend to eat a lot of junk. But the highly-processed foods have bad effects on your body and do more harm than good. They make you fatigue and cranky instead providing fuel for the mind and body. Clear out your pantry and say goodbye to chips, chocolate and candy and stock up on healthier alternatives, such as fresh fruits, crackers and trail mix. You will notice an increase in energy and are more likely to stick to a healthier diet.
